Janice WIllms received her M.D. degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and practiced internal medicine from 1964 through 1991. Upon completion of a Ph.D. in Literature in 1990 at the University of Connecticut, she assumed Executive Directorship of the Institute of Medical Humanities at St. Patrick Hospital and the University of Montana in Missoula. She retired from the Institute in 1998, lectured in literature and medical humanities at the College of Creative Studies, University of California at Santa Barbara, and currently teaches medical humanities for the Osher Life Learning Institute at the University of Washington.
