Carol Donley has her B.A. from Hiram (Biology), M.A. and Ph.D. from Kent State University (English), and M.A. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (Bioethics). From 1990-2006 she co-directed the Center for Literature, Medicine, and the Health Care Professions at Hiram with her colleague, Martin Kohn, retired director of the Human Values in Medicine program at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. With Martin Kohn she is co-editor of the Literature and Medicine Series from Kent State University Press.
